Hailsham Hockey Club

The Club

Hailsham is situated 9 miles North of Eastbourne, near the Sussex Coast. The hockey club was founded in 1902, and is one of the oldest club's in the county of Sussex. Local historian records include photographs of mixed hockey being played on the infamous Hailsham Recreation ground back as early as 1925.

In October 2001 the new Hailsham Community College all weather pitch became available, and Hailsham now play all home games at the college.

Hailsham is a small club, fielding 3 men's, 2 ladies and 1 mixed side.

We have an occasional men's veterans team, and an active junior section whose members play in the Men's 3rd XI - The Millers - (in the Sussex Development League), and the Ladies 2nd XI in the Ladies League, and also in mini hockey festivals and tournaments.



Hailsham positions itself as a community club. We aim to provide hockey for the town of Hailsham, in the town of Hailsham. As far as possible within the boundaries of the sport we aim not to discriminate and welcome new players to the club of any playing age, or social members.

We currently have 3 qualified coaches and 6 qualified umpires, but are always looking for new members to participate in coaching and umpiring activities.

We provide support to the Sussex Hockey Association, and the current Treasurer is a playing member of the club, and the County men's representative is a past playing member of the club.

Hailsham also host the Active Sports Development Centre for Under 13 boys for the East part of Sussex. This involved 3 club coaches helping to develop the boys in preparation for county Under 13 trials.

Club House

From September 2004 Hailsham Hockey Club will use Carriages Squash Club for their post match entertainment. This has now become the headquarters for the club. All entertainment and meetings will be held at the club, and we thank Carriages for their kind hospitality. Details of how to get to the club can be found on the directions page.
