Sussex Police made it two wins out of two this season after giving Hailsham a five nil thumping at the Park College astro. If the final result flattered the Police Hailsham could have no complaints after giving the dangerous Police forwards too much room in the second half.
In the first half there was very little to choose between the two teams. Sussex Police took the lead after twenty minutes but Hailsham were creating chances of their own with a number of dangerous balls into the D that the Police keeper did well to smother. However it looked as though Hailsham pressure would bring a reward when following a short corner Martin Headey was fouled in the act of shooting and an obvious penalty flick was awarded. Even though Neil Phillips' flick was well saved the mood in the Hailsham camp was still positive at half time.
This optimism was short lived though as the Police quickly stretched their lead shortly after half time and a number of Hailsham attacks were snuffed out around the edge of the D. As the Police increased their control on the game they were content to play on the counter attack and after a promising Hailsham move had broken down on the edge of the D a pacy Police move led to the third goal.
On a frustrating day for Hailsham their normally slick short corner routine was in complete disarray and even though their haul of eight short corners bore witness to their attacking intentions they were barely able to get a shot on target let alone score. The Police finishing was much more clinical and with five minutes remaining they rubbed salt into the Hailsham wounds with their fourth and fith goals.
The match was a disappointing way to say farewell to the highly reliable Hailsham defender Danny Willis who is leaving to live in Sweden on Wednesday.
