South Saxons 4 v Hailsham 2nds 3
The Hailsham 2nd eleven continued their pre season build up with a very encouraging performance against a South Saxons XI.
Although they came off second best in a seven goal thriller there were real signs of the newly formed outfit beginning to gel. Taking a 16 man squad to the fixture Hailsham were 3-0 down at half time but some reorganisation at the break with the vastly experienced Jim Major slotting into the right back position meant the side had an altogether more solid look.
Sure enough the fight back was launched when five minutes after the restart John Martin latched on to a defence splitting pass from Tony Newton and drilled the ball home. Player coach Frank Rallings then made it three two with a clever reverse stick shot and an unlikely victory seemed possible.
Hopes were dashed however when Saxons made it 4 - 2 against the second half run of play before in the closing minutes of the game Chris Martin recorded his first ever goal for Hailsham to leave the final score at 4-3.
The match was played in aid of the NSPCC and congratulations should go to all the players of both clubs who raised a superb £150 for the charity.
