Hailsham Ladies 4 - Chichester Centurions 0
Emma receives trophy
Hailsham rounded off their season with a 4-0 win against Chichester Centurions in the Ladies Shield Final at Lewes to make it a League and Cup double.
Always looking dominant, Hailsham opened the scoring when Alison Headey struck a short corner at pace past the stranded Chi goal keeper after just 10 minutes of the game having been played.
The second came when Katy Stewart struck the ball following a cross from the right. This made the half time score 2-0.
Just after half time, Hailsham scored from another short corner when Headey's strike was well saved by the keeper but Lou Forwood was on hand to follow up the rebound.
At 3-0 it may have seemed like plain sailing, but the defence were called on several times to stop a marauding Chi side from scoring. Both Nicky Ouzman and Toni Hobden made superb saves to keep the ball out from goal bound shoots, both throwing themselves at the ball to knock it round the post, and Julie Abson came running from her goal line to deny Chi a goal from the top of the D.
But, Hailsham finally wrapped up the game when Sue Cable inevitably got on the score sheet to make it 4-0.
Mention must go to the superb midfield play from Midge James, Emma Allen and Sharon Fletcher whose running kept the Chi team under pressure for the whole game, and the disciplined forward play from Sandra Allen, Katy Stewart, Sue Cable and Lou Forwood who kept their shape throughout the game to stretch the Chi fullbacks. Kim Hindle and Lucy Smith completed the squad playing their part as rolling subs during the game.
